Members of the public have vented anger and a sense of bewilderment after a 15-year-old girl was shot at a bus stop.

The teenage victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries but police later described her condition as stable.

Detectives have since revealed that a 21-year-old man, from Toxteth, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Now members of the public have expressed their concern for the girl and a sense of frustration.

Linda McMillan said: "Spraying bullets regardless who is in the vicinity truly shocking. God bless speedy recovery."

Anne-Marie O'Donovan said: "This is getting ridiculous now. Come on parents, educate your kids. Guide them. No more violence."

Sarah Jane Nesbit said: "What the hell is this world coming to? Just getting worse and worse hope this young girl pulls through and is ok."

Barbara A Kaye said: "Poor girl, hope she makes a full recovery and hope the gunman gets an appropriate jail term."

Angela Evans said: "What the hell is wrong with these people? Why do they feel the need to carry knifes and guns?"

Laura Mae said: "My first thought this morning when I woke up was this young girl and her family, praying she pulls through."

Kim Marie Chaloner said: "What is wrong with this world? I do hope this little girl is ok."

Shortly after the shooting a man in his 20s, turned up at hospital with a gunshot injury to his hand, which is not life threatening.

It is not yet known if the two injuries are linked.

A police cordon remains at the scene today as house-to-house, forensic and CCTV enquiries are being carried out in the local area.

Chief Inspector Col Rooney said: “The investigation is in the very early stages as we seek to establish what has taken place and who was involved.

“While I understand this is a shocking incident for the local community we have a large police presence in the area carrying out a number of lines of enquiry and I would encourage people to come forward and tell us what they know.

“I would ask anyone who was in the area of Upper Warwick Street around 5.10pm on Tuesday who saw or heard anything suspicious or thinks they have captured anything significant on their mobile phone, dashcam or Ring doorbell to contact us as a matter of urgency.

“There is no room for guns on the streets of Merseyside and we will do everything we can to find the person or people responsible for this incident and bring them to justice.”

Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 anonymously quoting log 647 of March 1.
