Liverpool understood to have agreed a fee for Newcastle United youngster Bobby Clark

Liverpool are understood to have struck a deal to sign one of Newcastle United's hottest young prospects Bobby Clark.

Sources at the Liverpool end have indicated the Reds have agreed a fee with Newcastle for the 16-year-old and hope to confirm the deal in due course.

Newcastle sources claimed last month that they wanted Clark to have a future on Tyneside and follow in the footsteps of his famous father Lee, who became a terrace idol in the 1990s, but it looks like the Reds have won their battle to sign the Academy product.

Players of Clark's age at Newcastle usually see out a scholarship until the age of 17 before penning a professional contract, with Joe White and Elliot Anderson going down that pathway in the last year or so.

However, Liverpool appear to have stolen a march on the Magpies and are eager to get the deal rubber-stamped soon.

It remains to be seen how much the fee will be for Clark but his departure would be deemed a big blow by fans.

Clark is already an England youth international and has attracted interest from the Reds, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

Steve Bruce has used a clutch of youngsters in pre-season including White, Kell Watts, Tom Allan and Jack Young.

However, it looks like he will be denied the opportunity to blood Clark junior in Toon colours.
