Liverpool trio nominated for Premier League Hall of Fame

Former Liverpool trio Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen have all received nominations for the Premier League Hall of Fame.

All three are part of a 23-man shortlist, with six of those former players set to be inducted into the Hall of Fame following a public and panel vote.

Gerrard was one of Liverpool’s greatest players and captained the club to Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup glory during his career.

The Huyton-born Reds Academy graduate represented the Anfield club 504 times across 17 seasons in the top-flight, scoring 120 goals.

While Fowler broke into Liverpool's first team when he was 18, and by the time he notched a four minute hat-trick against Arsenal a year later, had become a true Kop favourite.

He scored over 30 goals for three successive seasons in the mid 1990s and recovered from a knee injury to play his part in the Reds' cup treble of 2001.

The Toxteth-born former England international currently sits eighth on the Premier League's all-time goalscoring list with 163 goals.

A graduate of the FA's Lilleshall school of excellence, Owen played a major role as the Reds claimed success in the FA Youth Cup for the very first time in 1996.

Owen was also instrumental in Liverpool’s 2001 treble win with his performances that year earning him the honour of being crowned European Footballer of the Year.

However, Owen left the club in the summer of 2004 for Real Madrid, but departed having scored 158 times in 297 appearances for the Reds.

To be eligible for the Hall of Fame this year, players must have been retired as of 1 August 2020, and only a player’s Premier League career is considered in his candidacy.

While each inductee will receive a personalised medallion, engraved with the year of their induction.

Fans can vote for the former Reds and others, including Dennis Bergkamp, Roy Keane and Didier Drogba here until 6pm on Sunday, May 9.
