Liverpool tried to trademark 'Allez, Allez, Allez' terrace song popular with Cardiff City fans

Liverpool attempted to trademark "Allez, Allez, Allez" - words to a terrace song popular with several clubs around Europe, including Cardiff City.

The song became synonymous with Liverpool's run to the Champions League final in Kiev back in 2018, where a Gareth Bale brace condemned them to defeat against Real Madrid.

Its popularity with Kopites has endured ever since.

The iNews claims the Reds filed an application with the Intellectual Property Office to trademark the words to the song that is believed to have been adopted by at least six different clubs beforehand.

The song, which was believed to have been lifted from fans of Portuguese club FC Porto, has also been sung by at least three Italian clubs - Genoa, Juventus and Napoli - along with Rangers and Atletico Madrid.

Cardiff City fans have also adopted their own version, which is often heard around the Cardiff City Stadium on match days to this day.

Liverpool's attempts to trademark 'Allez, Allez, Allez' were eventually withdrawn.

It comes after the club caused a stir by registering an application to trademark the word “Liverpool”, along with “6 times” – referencing their sixth European title.

A Liverpool spokesman said: “We are applying to register ‘Liverpool’ as a trademark, but only in the context of football products and services. We are not, and wouldn’t ever, seek to register ‘Liverpool’ across the board.

“This application is strictly to protect the club and supporters from those benefiting from inauthentic products.”
