Liverpool transfers - Adama Traore interest as two players near exit

Liverpool made it two from two on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 win over Burnley as a full house returned to Anfield for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Reds current strength in depth saw Jurgen Klopp bring on Roberto Firmino, Thiago and Joe Gomez as second half substitutes whilst James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Andy Robertson were all unavailable.

The Reds boss has a little over one week to complete any transfer business before the window slams shut on August 31.

Outgoings appear the most likely, but rumours continue to dominate the headlines.

Here is the latest Liverpool transfer news, gossip and rumours from around the globe.

What?

Liverpool have been credited with interest in Wolves' Adama Traore this summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Tottenham Hotspur are also reportedly interested in a move as the new Spurs manager Nuno Espirito Santo eyes a reunion with the Spain international.

Romano said on the show: “For Liverpool it depends on the Origi or Shaqiri situation.

“For Tottenham, they’re trying to resolve the situation of Harry Kane. If they sell Kane, Traore could be one of the names on the list.

“Nuno, of course, likes the player. I’m told the Tottenham board have some interest in Traore. He is not a priority now but he is one of the names on the list.”

Midfielder Ben Woodburn is also set to depart Anfield this summer with a loan move to Scottish side Hearts 'sanctioned' by the club.

The 21-year-old is due in Edinburgh early this week to finalise the move, which is an initial loan until January, with an option to extend should all parties agree.

“We’re expecting him up either tonight or tomorrow morning. It’s been authorised by Liverpool so it’s just a case of getting him up and getting him ready,” explained the Hearts manager Robbie Neilson after their 1-1 draw with Aberdeen on Sunday.

What?

Shaqiri will depart Liverpool this summer as an agreement has been made in principle with Lyon over the transfer of the Swiss international.

The player will undergo a medical in France on Monday as the details of the deal will be finalised.

A £9.5m fee has been agreed, which is slightly short of the initial £12m the club had hoped to recoup for the 29-year-old.

However, it is significantly more than the €5m originally offered a couple of weeks ago.

Lyon's statement read: "After intense negotiations with Liverpool, OL thanks the General Manager, Billy Hogan, and the Sporting Director, Michael Edwards, for their availability and for listening to the joint requests of Xherdan Shaqiri and Olympique Lyonnais."
