Liverpool transfer stance over defender Ozan Kabak is clear

Liverpool are not interested in signing Schalke defender Ozan Kabak.

The centre-back has been strongly linked with a move to the Reds in various media outlets.

But the ECHO understands such reports are wide of the mark.

According to the Daily Mai l, Liverpool asked the Bundesliga club about 20-year-old Kabak as they reported on Schalke '"facing the prospect of selling some of their top young players as they struggle financially".

Turkey international Kabak has reportedly attracted attention from Manchester City, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund in recent seasons.

But Liverpool have no interest in the player.

Schalke failed to win a single game after the German top flight season was restarted after lockdown, though managed to finish 12th in the table.

As the ECHO reported over the last few days, Dejan Lovren is on the brink of an exit with the defender closing in on a move to Zenit St Petersburg.

That deal is understood to be worth around £11m.

The Reds have teenage youngsters Sepp van den Berg and Ki-Jana Hoever in reserve but Lovren's departure means just Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are the senior centre-halves at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp's squad now begin a two-break week break before they will return to Melwood ahead of preparations to defend their title.
