Liverpool transfer stance on Xherdan Shaqiri and Andy Robertson injury update

Your morning digest for Tuesday, August 10.

'We got lucky' - Jurgen Klopp gives new Andy Robertson injury update

Jurgen Klopp has offered Liverpool fans hope with the latest news on Andy Robertson’s injury.

Robertson was taken off just before half-time in the side’s penultimate friendly with Athletic Bilbao, with the full-back having had a scan on Monday.

Pictured wearing a protective boot after leaving a Merseyside hospital, the scan showed minor ligament damage but Klopp remained optimistic, referencing the September international break.

Speaking after the Reds’ win over Osasuna, he told LFC TV, “It could have been much worse. You saw the footage and it didn't look well but I think we got lucky.

"I am not sure [if he will return] before the international break or after, it is difficult in this situation, but [it won't be] too long.”

Liverpool respond to transfer approach for Xherdan Shaqiri

Lyon have officially registered an interest in Xherdan Shaqiri but the clubs are yet to reach an agreement for the winger.

Shaqiri was left out of both squads for the Reds’ Spanish double-header at Anfield, with the club taking precautions against injury, ahead of a potential move away.

The ECHO understands that Liverpool and the French club remain a “long way apart” in their respective valuations.

The 29-year-old has been linked with several clubs throughout Europe and has informed Anfield decision-makers that he wishes to pursue a new challenge, with his gametime having become limited.

However, the Reds wish to at least recoup the £12m they paid Stoke for the former Bayern and Inter man, three years ago.

Having enjoyed a successful Euro 2020 campaign with Switzerland and with two years left on his contract, the club are hopeful of a team matching the price set for Shaqiri.
