Liverpool transfer 'sounded out' by Jorge Mendes as Real Madrid 'open door' for deal

Liverpool look set to pass on Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes after rumoured interest - but time is still available for Jurgen Klopp to strengthen in this position of the team.

With Thiago Alcantara sidelined and the Reds' injury list only continuing by the game, many have argued the time has come for the club to recruit to provide adequate depth over the course of the campaign. One name who has continued to be linked with a move to Merseyside is Real Madrid's Marco Asensio, who has one year remaining on his current contract.

First-team opportunities are proving difficult to come by for the 26-year-old, who reportedly finds himself in a 'complicated situation' as his future hangs in the balance.

A latest article by Mundo Deportivo has explained Madrid have 'opened the exit door wide' for Asensio, with the club waiting for the player himself to make a decision on his future. Liverpool and other Premier League sides have emerged as possible destinations, though it is stated that a formal offer is yet to be submitted by any club.

The player's agent, Jorge Mendes, is said to be attempting to 'move' his client around Europe to the likes of the Reds, Arsenal, Chelsea and AC Milan but are yet to find a solution as he continues to struggle for game time. Asensio failed to make it onto the pitch in Los Blancos' UEFA Super Cup win over Eintracht Frankfurt or their opening La Liga fixture with Almeria.

Madrid are yet to offer a contract extension according to the above report as 'pressure' grows on the Spaniard to engineer a move to revive hopes of playing a part at the upcoming World Cup.
