Liverpool transfer roundup: Reds battle City for Diego Carlos as Kelly back on radar

Now the celebrations have died down a little on Merseyside, Liverpool can begin to focus on defending their Premier League title.

To do that, though, they may need to strengthen a little in the transfer market, despite having amassed an incredible 99 points on their way to the title.

There are still suggestions that the squad depth could be improved, especially following the exits of both Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana.

It remains to be seen whether the Reds will spend big on anyone, but they are certainly not going to be spectators throughout the summer window.

We’ve taken a look at the latest Liverpool transfer rumours.

Liverpool will face competition from Manchester City as they look to sign Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos.

The Daily Star reports that the 27-year-old has been identified as a potential replacement for Lovren following his sale to Zenit St Petersburg.

The Reds are reportedly willing to meet Carlos’ release clause of £70million, but City are able to offer the player a more lucrative contract.

The Brazilian has excelled in La Liga this season, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most respected defenders.

Signing him won’t be cheap, which suggests he would offer strong competition for Joe Gomez alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Reds to reignite interest in Bournemouth youngster

Liverpool are set to pursue a deal for defender Lloyd Kelly after Bournemouth ’s relegation from the Premier League, according to the Express.

The champions were interested in the 21-year-old last summer, but it was the Cherries who made a move, signing Kelly for £13m from Bristol City.

Liverpool are now looking to capitalise on his potential availability, despite a season disrupted by injuries.

Kelly can play as a left-back or centre-back and would offer plenty of cover following Lovren’s exit, but his lack of game time in the top flight means there are some lingering doubts.

Update on future of Reds teenager

Yasser Larouci is expected to leave Liverpool this summer in search of more regular game time, according to the Blood Red podcast.

The 19-year-old left-back has made two first-team appearances this season, both in the FA Cup, but is nowhere near Klopp’s Premier League starting XI.

“He wants first-team opportunities and they’re not going to come at Liverpool,” Liverpool Echo journalist Theo Squires said on the Blood Red podcast.

“He’s only got a year on his contract, so rather than letting him go for free, he’ll move on this summer.

"They say clubs linked with him are Leeds United and Brentford, so he could be one Liverpool welcome back to Anfield in the Premier League as an opposing player next season.”
