Wilson loan bid knocked back
Liverpool have reportedly turned down a loan move for Harry Wilson, who remains on the shopping list of a number of Championship clubs.
Swansea City were believed to be leading the race, having successfully brought Rhian Brewster to the Liberty Stadium from Anfield for the second half of last season.
However, according to the Athletic’s Stuart James, Swansea’s proposal was “a non-starter” from a financial perspective.
Derby County are now reportedly favourites for the Welsh international, who impressed on loan at Pride Park in the 2018/19 season.
However, Swansea are not necessarily out of the picture for Wilson, who was courted by Burnley last month, and any suitor has until Friday to complete a deal.
Klopp ‘blocked’ Shaqiri exit at eleventh hour
Xherdan Shaqiri has been welcomed back into the fold at Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp adding the Swiss international to his Champions League squad after it looked like he could leave over the summer.
Indeed, according to reports from Turkey, Shaqiri was on the verge of a deadline day exit only for Klopp to stand in the way.
According to Takvim (via Inside Futbol), Fenerbahce believed they had a deal in place for the former Stoke City player, only for Klopp to decide he wanted to keep Shaqiri around.
The report claims Fenerbahce could return for the 29-year-old, who has played just once for the Reds this season, in January.
Former Liverpool defender Clyne finds new club
Nathaniel Clyne has spent the last few months looking for a new club following the expiry of his Liverpool contract.
The right-back hasn’t played a minute of competitive football since the end of the 2018/19 season, when he finished the campaign on loan at Bournemouth, and left Anfield at the end of June.
After spending time training with former club Crystal Palace over the summer, the England international has agreed terms with the Eagles.
Clyne has signed a ‘short-term deal’ with the club, according to Palace’s website, and said “It’s surreal being back, enjoying it and hopefully I can just crack on and enjoy my football again.”
Palace chairman Steve Parish described Clyne as “a first-rate professional, just as he was when I first met him more than a decade ago”.
Clyne began his career with Palace as a teenager, playing more than 100 games for the London side between 2008 and 2012, and only managed 77 league games for Liverpool during an injury-hit spell at Anfield.
