Liverpool transfer round-up: Reds midfield blow as World Cup star admits Anfield 'dream'

Liverpool have already made the most high-profile signing of the January in Cody Gakpo and the Dutchman got his first run out in the Reds shirt against Wolves on Saturday night.

Jurgen Klopp's men welcomed Wolves to Anfield and played out an enthralling 2-2 draw that sets up a mouthwatering replay at the Molinuex, though the prospect is unlikely to excite the Reds boss who is well-documented in his opposition of cup replays.

The performance certainly highlighted some of the glaring weaknesses in this Liverpool side, with Wolves enjoying their fare share of chances.

With that in mind, Mirror Football has identified three transfer talking points emerging out of Anfield.

Reds suffer Caicedo blow

Liverpool's need to bolster their midfield options is well-documented and Brighton star Moises Caicedo has often been the subject of speculaion linking him with a move to Anfield.

However, the Ecuadorian international's most recent comments make for unwelcome reading from a Liverpool perspective as Caicedo conceded he is very happy at the Amex.

"I’ve gained a lot more experience and that’s making me a player with a big profile. I’m enjoying every training session and every match," he told Brighton's club website.

"We are having a great season with this coach and I am sure we are going to stay up there in the table. We are training very well, are very focused on every match and I’m sure we will take Brighton to a qualification place for the Europa League.

"Something incredible is happening to me and this team and I thank God because without him I’m sure this wouldn’t have happened. The road was hard and I fought a lot but I’m here, playing for a big team and helping my family a lot as well."

Hardly the comments of a man keen on leaving anytime soon.

Josko Gvardiol's confession

A breakout star of the Qatar World Cup, Gvardiol has attracted plenty of Premier League interest but the Croatian recently confessed his ideal destination should he make the move to the English top flight.

Speaking to RTLDanas, the defender was asked who his dream could was, to which he replied: "That would definitely be Liverpool.

"Since I was little, I watched a lot of their matches with my dad. We covered every season in detail. It is a club that has remained in my heart."

In truth, the centre of defence is one area Liverpool do not require much strengthening, but with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City circling the Reds may be keen to secure Gvardiol before one of their rivals do.

Bellingham boost

Real Madrid were reportedly beating Liverpool in the race for Jude Bellingham's signature, but Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti may have handed the momentum right back to the Reds.

The Italian appeared to suggest Real Madrid are no longer pursuing the young England international as the Spanish giants are already stacked in the middle of the park.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s LaLiga clash with Villarreal, the Italian said: "There are a lot of youngsters, like Enzo [Fernandez], and a lot of midfielders who are coming through, some of them Spanish.

"Bellingham is one of them, but I'll stick with my midfielders, who are very good, especially the youngsters, like Valverde, Camavinga and Tchouameni. We have a lot of young players."

Liverpool could now be looking at a much easier run at Bellingham, most likely in the summer transfer window.
