Liverpool transfer round-up: Reds face Arnaut Danjuma battle as Klopp makes £15m decision

It could be a busy week for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp as he prepares for the opening fixture of the new Premier League season.

But away from the pitch, there remains a great deal of business to get through before the August 31 transfer deadline.

The German manager has decisions to make before the registration deadline with a number of fringe players, including Xherdan Shaqiri, Divock Origi and Loris Karius, facing uncertain futures.

Ibrahima Konate remains the Reds’ only arrival this summer after joining in a £35million deal from RB Leipzig.

However, there could be further signings joining the Frenchman at Anfield this summer, with several big-name targets linked to the Reds.

Klopp may feel inclined to strengthen his squad after watching Chelsea and Manchester City make high-profile moves for Romelu Lukaku and Jack Grealish respectively.

Mirror Football rounds up the latest transfer news coming out of Liverpool…

Aston Villa joins Reds in Danjuma chase

Liverpool could face competition in their pursuit of Bournemouth winger Arnaut Danjuma with Aston Villa set to battle for his signature.

The Dutchman starred in the Championship for The Cherries and backed up his impressive displays with 17 goals last season.

Those performances have seen the 24-year-old appear on the radar for several Premier League clubs as well as breaking into the Netherlands setup under previous coach Frank de Boer.

But The Sun report Danjuma is keen to move on after the South Coast outfit failed to gain promotion and Liverpool’s interest in the highly-rated winger could trigger a flurry of bids.

It could take a large offer to convince Bournemouth to sell, however, with Villarreal failing in a £13m offer for the winger back in July.

That could give Villa the advantage in the race to sign Danjuma after receiving a £100m windfall from Jack Grealish’s sale to Manchester City.

Liverpool missed out on ‘new Firmino’

The agent of Brazilian starlet Kaio Jorge has claimed Liverpool were among the list of clubs interested in signing his client.

The 19-year-old, who has been dubbed the “new Roberto Firmino” in his homeland, signed for Juventus in a cut-price £2.5m deal from Santos.

The Brazilian youngster burst onto the scene with five goals at the Under-17 World Cup in 2019 and had been tracked by several European clubs, including the Merseyside outfit.

“I know that he was followed with interest by Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Tottenham, but all the top clubs were informed,” his agent Andrea Bagnoli told Calciomercato.

“I really think so [Jorge is a bargain], because Juve jumped at the opportunity by taking advantage of the situation of his contract which would expire in a few months.

“He was followed by several European clubs, but in the end the most decisive club always wins.”

Liverpool face Phillips decision

Nathaniel Phillips could be set to leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window as several Premier League clubs line up a move for the defender.

The 24-year-old emerged from the wilderness to help the Reds during their defensive crisis last season and made 17 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s squad, including starting the Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.

According to The Liverpool Echo, Newcastle United are the latest to have registered an interest in Phillips, joining Southampton, Burnley and Brighton.

West Ham United and Bayer Leverkusen are also said to be keeping tabs on his situation, with Liverpool ready to demand £15m for a permanent deal.

The report claims Klopp is in no rush to sell the centre-back, who improved considerably towards the end of last season.

But with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez returning to action and Phillips’ desire to for regular action, Liverpool may be forced to sell on the central defender.
