Liverpool transfer round-up: Reds eye Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in double Serie A raid

Liverpool are back for pre-season training but Jurgen Klopp has already been hard at work trying to assemble his squad for the 2021-22 season with potential transfers incoming.

The Reds recovered from an alarming mid-season slump to finish third in the Premier League last season, thus losing their grasp on their league title to winners Manchester City.

The German boss has already moved to sign Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig from £35million after seeing his side crippled by a defensive crisis last season.

But there have also been outgoings, with Georginio Wijnaldum opting to head to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

It promises to be a busy summer on Merseyside with Klopp ready to revamp his squad and mount another title challenge.

Here, Mirror Sport rounds up all of the latest transfer news and gossip coming out of Anfield…

Who would you like to see Liverpool sign this summer? Have your say in the comments section below.

Reds eye £80m Milinkovic-Savic

Now that Wijnaldum has departed, Klopp may feel the need to strengthen his midfield options and one possible target could be Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Liverpool are currently blessed with talent in the centre of the park with Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho, Naby Keita, James Milner and Curtis Jones available for selection.

But with fitness concerns over Fabinho and Henderson, and the possible sale of Keita this summer, Klopp may need a new midfield general.

Enter Milinkovic-Savic, the 26-year-old who has been consistently linked with a Premier League switch ever since bursting onto the scene with Lazio.

The Serbian has made nearly 250 appearances for the Italian side scoring 47 goals for the club. But after six years in the Italian capital, it is believed Lazio are willing to cash in and Calciomercato believe the Reds are keen.

However, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool would be willing to meet the Biancoceleste’s £80m asking price, which would command a club-record fee.

Italy star Berardi on Liverpool radar

El Hadji-Diouf. Divock Origi. Liverpool have a pattern of signing players who have performed well at international tournaments in the past.

And after his displays at Euro 2020, Italy forward Domenico Berardi is thought to be the latest attacker to appear on their radar.

The 26-year-old has spent his entire senior career with Sassuolo, scoring 105 goals in 290 appearances and enjoyed the most prolific season of his career with 17 goals in Serie A.

Although he was used in a bit-part role due to the form of Federico Chiesa, Berardi played a key role for Roberto Mancini as the Azzurri clinched the Euro 2020 crown against England on Sunday.

Now Italian publication La Stampa claim there has been interest from Liverpool in the winger, who would command a fee of around £34m, and that Berardi would be “tempted” to head to Anfield.

However, any move could depend on Mohamed Salah’s future amid reported interest from Real Madrid.

Bees line up Wilson move

If Liverpool were lining up a deal to sign Berardi this summer, any move for the Italian could be part-funded by selling Harry Wilson.

The Wales international, who has spent the past four seasons on loan at Hull City, Derby County, Bournemouth and Cardiff City, looks set to depart on a permanent transfer this summer.

The 24-year-old has been way down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp for some time and the Reds’ £20m asking price put off potential suitors last summer.

But Football Insider report that newly-promoted Brentford have enquired about the possibility of signing Wilson this summer.

The winger has only a year left to run on his current deal and that could force Liverpool into accepting a cut-price fee for his services, with the west London outfit apparently willing to pay £10m.
