Liverpool transfer round-up: Reds eye Antoine Griezmann move and Nat Phillips nears exit

After enduring a disappointing season in the Premier League, Liverpool are set to be active in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp ’s squad was shown up to be lacking in quality behind his first-choice options, with upgrades needed throughout the team.

While several stars will return from injury for the next campaign, there is still expected to be a rebuild at the club.

A new centre-back is one of Klopp’s top priorities, while Gini Wijnaldum’s impending departure means that a new midfielder is also required.

Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Liverpool transfer news…

With Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip hit be injury, Nat Phillips stepped up to play a key role in Liverpool’s defence.

While he has impressed many this term, it appears that Jurgen Klopp has not seen enough to convince him that the defender is a long-term option.

And with Liverpool’s senior defenders returning from injury, The Sun report that the Reds will allow Phillips to depart if their valuation of £10million is met.

Reds close on Konate deal

With Phillips set to be on his way out of Anfield, Klopp will look to upgrade his defensive options in the summer.

Their top target is RB Leipzig man Ibrahima Konate, who has impressed in the Bundesliga and is seen as being a quality addition.

And it appears that a deal to bring the defender to Anfield has taken a major step towards completion.

That is because Fabrizio Romano reports that the Reds and Konate have come to an agreement on a five-contract, with confirmation of the move now “only a matter a time”.

While they have usually been incredibly potent in front of goal, Liverpool’s front three failed to hit their usual heights this season.

Many believe that Klopp will attempt to refresh his attacking options and could look to La Liga for a new star attacker.

El Gol Digital claim that Antoine Griezmann will be allowed to leave Barcelona this summer, with the Catalan giants in serious financial trouble.

It is stated that Liverpool are monitoring the situation, with a cut-price move being sized up by the Reds for the World Cup winner.
