Liverpool transfer round-up: PSG chief drops Kylian Mbappe hint after £170m 'offer'

Liverpool fans were stunned on Thursday when rumours of a €200million (£170m) bid for Kylian Mbappe emerged in the Spanish press.

The France international, 24, is one of the best footballers on the planet after winning six Ligue 1 titles and scoring a hat-trick in last year's World Cup final defeat to Argentina. It's unlikely any team in the Premier League would say no to such a talent.

Mbappe has just a year left on his Paris Saint-Germain contract and it's unclear whether he will renew it. The odds of Liverpool submitting such a colossal bid after splashing the cash on Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai are slim... but not impossible.

Here are the latest transfer updates and rumours from Merseyside...

PSG's Mbappe hint

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi wants Mbappe to sign a new contract but will sell him if he refuses to do so. As Mbappe has entered the final year of his deal, the Ligue 1 champions only have two opportunities to sell the superstar - now or in January.

It's unlikely such a big transfer will take place during the middle of the season, which means it's now or never for PSG to cash in. And if Mbappe does leave the Parc des Princes, only a handful of clubs will be able to sign him. Liverpool are one of them.

Real Madrid were the favourites for Mbappe's signature, but they have ruled out a transfer. Manchester United is another option for the 2018 World Cup winner, but that transfer depends on whether their ownership saga will be resolved before September.

When asked about Mbappe's future, Al-Khelaifi said: "Our position is very clear. If Kylian Mbappe wants to stay - we want him to stay - he needs to sign a new contract. We cannot let the best player in the world right now leave for free. That is impossible."

Chiesa's agent in England

Italy international Federico Chiesa's agent has travelled to England for transfer talks, according to Corriere dello Sport. As relayed by Paisley Gates, Chiesa is waiting to receive the green light to make a £34million switch from Serie A club Juventus.

Liverpool are believed to be interested in the 25-year-old, but so are Chelsea and Newcastle. Chiesa reportedly wants a €5m per year salary (around £82,000-a-week). The winger has scored 38 goals and provided 39 assists in 202 Serie A appearances.

Schuurs interest reignited

Torino are expecting Liverpool to make another bid for their defender Perr Schuurs, according to Tuttosport. As relayed by Sport Witness, Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring in a new centre-back having signed two midfielders in Mac Allister and Szoboszlai.

It's believed Liverpool have already seen a €30m (£25.6m) bid for Schuurs rejected by Torino, who are holding out for €40m (£34.2m). The Serie A club will listen to offers for the former Netherlands youth international, who has three years left on his contract.

Schuurs has made 33 appearances for Torino since his €9.4m (£8m) transfer from Ajax in August. The Dutchman previously played for Fortuna Sittard and Ajax, winning six trophies with the latter club - including three Eredivisie titles.
