Liverpool transfer round-up: Milan Skriniar price tag an issue

The January transfer window offers Liverpool the chance to resolve their defensive issues.

Jurgen Klopp has seen his options at the back destroyed by injuries with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez both long-term absentees.

Liverpool have been urged to sign a new centre-half by Jamie Carragher as they aim to retain their Premier League crown.

January is notoriously a difficult time to do business though and the Reds will be reluctant to spend big.

They also have the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Georginio Wijnaldum who will soon be free to begin negotiating with other clubs.

Here we bring you the latest transfer rumours coming out of Anfield.

Reds warned off Skriniar

Liverpool have been put off pursuing a January move for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar due to his hefty price tag.

The Reds may look to recruit another centre-half next month once the transfer window opens.

Jurgen Klopp has seen his resources tested to the max with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez both set for lengthy lay offs.

It has forced the German into playing makeshift centre-halves or turning to young players.

Skriniar is highly thought of and has been linked with several Premier League clubs.

But Inter's £54m valuation looks to be more than Liverpool want to pay, reports CalcioMercato.

Wolves join Gini race

Wolves have joined the race to sign Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum according to reports in Italy.

The Dutchman’s contract at Anfield is winding down and he will soon be free to negotiate with other clubs.

Liverpool are keen to keep hold of the midfielder who is into his fifth season at Anfield.

But he has recently asked for more time before making a decision on his future.

Wijnaldum has been heavily linked with Barcelona where former Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman is now in charge.

Inter Milan are also keen on the 30-year-old with Wolves now considering a move, reports Gazzetta dello Sport.

Coutinho creates money issue

Philippe Coutinho’s Barcelona nightmare continued on Tuesday after he picked up a serious injury in his side’s 1-1 draw with Eibar.

And it could also spell bad news for his former side Liverpool, who may miss out on £18m as a result.

With Coutinho set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, it could well have financial implications for Liverpool.

According to Spanish publication El Periodico, one of the bonus clauses involved in Coutinho’s transfer from the Reds to Barca would see the La Liga giants pay an extra £18m once Coutinho had made 100 competitive appearances for the club.

His brief cameo against Eibar was his 90th - meaning he would need to play ten more times in order for that clause to become active.
