Liverpool transfer round up as Perr Schuurs responds to rumours and Brighton deal ruled out

After a successful summer transfer window which saw them strike gold with the signing of Diogo Jota, Liverpool will be hoping for a similar boost in January if Jurgen Klopp sanctions a move to bolster their defence.

With Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez out for several months, reinforcements are needed in defence and the Reds are being tipped to acquire a centre-back in the new year.

A number of defenders are understood to be Liverpool's radar and the pull of playing for the Premier League champions and competing in the Champions League should give them an edge in negotiations.

Here are the latest Liverpool transfer rumours...

Schuurs happy at Ajax

Ajax defender Perr Schuurs says he is aware of interest from Liverpool is happy to remain with the Dutch club.

Schuurs played against the Reds on Tuesday in the Champions League and speaking after the match, the 21-year-old was asked about his future.

"I hear and read it [Liverpool rumours] too,” he told SBS6.

“It’s my first season as a basic player at Ajax. I want to play here for a few more seasons and win prizes. I’m not really working on that yet.”

Liverpool are reportedly not interested in signing Brighton's Ben White in January.

With Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk out with long-term injuries, White had emerged as a possible player of interest to Liverpool.

But Sky Sports say Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea are all monitoring White's situation with Liverpool unlikely to pursue a move.

Jota deal praise

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has hailed Diogo Jota as the signing of the season so far after nine goals in 15 games for the Reds since his move from Wolves.

“No one could’ve predicted that he would hit the ground running like he has," he told BT Sport.

“You’d have to say he’s the best signing of the season so far in the Premier League.

“He’s surprised me with his pace, I must admit. I think he’s far quicker than I gave him credit for. Against Atalanta he was electric.

“He just shows composure, a lot of people panic, they just get a shot off as soon as they get any form of space.

“I just think he’s scored headers, right foot, left foot, he’s scored everything so far and he’s looked the real deal in terms of linking play.

“Nobody could have envisaged the quality that he’s shown so far.”
