Liverpool transfer news: Timo Werner could join Reds over Bayern Munich, PSG and Borussia Dortmund, claims RB Leipzig's Oliver Mintzlaff

Timo Werner could join Liverpool over Bayern Munich according to RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff.

The Bundesliga club have acknowledged the Germany striker does not want to sign a new contract at the RB Arena.

But Mintzlaff insists discussions with Bayern for the 23-year-old are yet to take place with the Reds named as a potential landing spot.

“The situation is still the same. Timo Werner would rather not sign an extension,” Mintzlaff told Sky.

“But that could change. I don’t think it’s completely out of the question that he could extend his deal. Everything will be further discussed after the season.

“We haven’t talked to Bayern München about Timo Werner yet. It’s important for us what Timo Werner wants.

“I think Timo wanted to see how the season would develop.

“We said at some point that it would be more important for us to qualify for the Champions League and get in the cup final than to talk about Timo Werner every day.”

After scoring 19 goals and making 11 assists, Mintzlaff believes Werner could opt to move to Anfield ahead of one of their Bundesliga rivals.

“Maybe he doesn’t even want to go to Munich,” Mintzlaff added.

“Maybe he would rather join [Thomas] Tuchel at Paris Saint-Germain, [Jürgen] Klopp at Liverpool or [Lucien] Favre at Dortmund.”
