Liverpool transfer news: Sean Dyche responds to Reds links with James Tarkowski

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has played down reports Liverpool are keen on James Tarkowski.

The Clarets defender was linked with the Reds last year and Jurgen Klopp could reignite that interest in January with a view to securing squad depth as they bid to land the Premier League and Champions League.

But Dyche insists there has been no contact with Liverpool over the player, or with Preston, who have reportedly enquired about Joe Hart after the former England No 1 was dropped.

“We haven’t had any enquires for anyone,” Dyche remarked.

“I’m not suggesting it (Liverpool’s interest in Tarkowski) is rubbish, but I’m suggesting it’s a new one on me.”

Burnley host Fulham this weekend in the midst of a relegation scrap.

Dyche’s men sit 16th in the Premier League table, just two points off the drop zone.

But after a 1-0 win over Barnsley in the FA Cup third round, Burnley secured a third straight victory and will be confident of avoiding the drop.
