Liverpool officials are making plans for the January transfer window, with Jurgen Klopp set to lose both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to the African Cup of Nations.
The Reds could be forced to play fringe attackers Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino alongside Roberto Firmino due to their two first-choice wingers being away.
But one option for Klopp is to dip into the transfer market to bring in a new forward, just as he did in 2019 to sign Minamino.
The Reds have been linked with a number of options, and could be in line to spend big having paid just £35million during the summer window - with Ibrahima Konate their only signing.

Dortmund lead Adeyemi race

One of the players heavily linked with Liverpool is Red Bull Salzburg's Karim Adeyemi.
The 19-year-old striker has already worked his way into the full Germany side after a storming start to the campaign.
Adeyemi has bagged 15 goals in just 22 games across all competitions this season, including 11 in 13 in the Austrian Bundesliga.
It's said that a move to Liverpool would greatly interest the young forward due to his desire to play under Klopp.
But according to BILD, via Sport Witness, Borussia Dortmund are currently leading the race for Adeyemi.
Dortmund are known for snapping up young players before developing them and selling them on, as they have done with Christian Pulisic and Jadon Sancho.
And according to BILD, they would also be able to offer Adeyemi the first-team football he desires at this point of his career.
Liverpool missed out on Dutch striker Donyell Malen to Dortmund during the summer, and would likely be determined not to miss out again.
Reports suggest Salzburg want a fee in the region of £34m to let their prized asset leave in January.
Reds could receive windfall

Liverpool have been known for being strict with their finances in recent seasons, and spent just £35m in the previous summer transfer window.
It's unlikely they'll go and match the spending of Arsenal, Manchester City or Manchester United any time soon, but it seems they could receive a slight windfall if one former player moves in January.
Following Steven Gerrard's appointment as Aston Villa head coach, rumours have been swirling about who the former Rangers boss could sign in January to strengthen his side.
And the claims he could look to bring English winger Ryan Kent down to the midlands with him.
Kent was signed from Liverpool by Rangers in 2019, and it seems a sell-on fee included in that deal could see the Reds receive a bit of extra money in January.
Mbappe opens up on future

One player Liverpool have been tentatively linked with is Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe.
The 22-year-old, who became the most expensive teenager of all time when he signed for PSG from Monaco for £166m back in 2017, seems ready to leave after four years in the French capital.
Mbappe, who has previously spoken for his love for Liverpool and Klopp in particular, has been tipped to move to the Premier League and join the Reds when his contract expires.
But if Liverpool are to go for him, they'll face heavy competition from Real Madrid, who were desperate to sign him in the summer.
Who has been Liverpool's best player of the season? Let us know
Mbappe was asked about his future while away on France duty, and expressed he still hasn't made up his mind over what he'll do.
He's out of contract at the end of the season, and is expected to sign for Madrid for nothing next year.
Mbappe said: "I have spent five extraordinary years here, I have taken advantage of every moment and I continue to do so. I am happy both on the pitch and in my personal life.
"Now there are many things, great challenges and I have already spoken about that. I'm here, I'm still here, I'm here this season."
