Liverpool transfer news: Micky van de Ven "open" to reunion at "great club"

Micky van de Ven has continued to flirt publicly with Liverpool insisting he would be "open to a good plan".

The Dutchman has been integral for Wolfsburg this term, making over 30 appearances at the heart of defence for the German outfit. Van de Ven is currently on international duty with the Dutch U21 side as he prepares for the Euros this summer, but speculation over a switch to Anfield is increasingly.

Jorg Schmadtke has recently been appointed as Liverpool's sporting director. He, during his time at Wolfsburg, signed Van de Ven from Volendam as a teenager and could return to bring him to Merseyside with the player refusing to quash the rumour mill.

He told VI : "Of course I heard of Liverpool links and I know they’ve been following me in the past. That’s it. Of course. Liverpool is a great club. There’s a chance for me to leave this summer. If a nice club with good plan arrives… I’d be open."

Liverpool are by no means short of defensive options but Van de Ven would further bolster their ranks. The 22-year-old can play in several positions across the back four with Jurgen Klopp often changing the man alongside Virgil van Dijk. Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate have all partnered the Dutchman last season. Matip though continues to be plagued by injury issues whilst Gomez has also spent time on the sidelines.

Van de Ven, unlike some other young players, is very much paying attention to the speculation. Wolfsburg have been the platform for the likes of Kevin De Bruyne to thrive and the young Dutchman admits a major move would "be nice" but confessed he's happy to spend another year on Germany.

He told HITC : "Of course, I read everything. I have good contact with my agent, so I know what’s going on. I’ll see where it will lead. Hopefully, (a big transfer after the Euros) would be nice. The Premier League? Maybe, yes. Who knows. I am very good at Wolfsburg, so I don’t mind staying at Wolfsburg for another year. But if I get a chance to leave, I would like to."

Liverpool have already added Alexis Mac Allister this summer with the Brighton star moving to Anfield. The Argentine will address their midfield issues but more arrivals are expected with the likes of Moises Caicedo and Mason Mount on their radar.

Jurgen Klopp's side missed out on Champions League football but doesn't expect that to be a problem when it comes to recruitment. He said: "It is a fantastic club with a really good football team and even better, hopefully, next year. I've barely faced the situation where you talk with a player and everything is great and he says, 'okay see you if...' That doesn't happen really often."
