Liverpool transfer news: Jurgen Klopp reveals plans for Rhian Brewster after shining vs Tranmere

Jurgen Klopp has hinted at a first team role for Rhian Brewster this season after his double in Liverpool’s 6-0 friendly win over Tranmere.

The 19-year-old grabbed his chance at Prenton Park with his first start under the German boss.

After suffering with injuries since bursting onto the scene in 2017, Brewster has bolstered his case to be included in the first team squad, with Klopp open to handing the youngster a prominent role.

“I told him already, he has an important role this year – but how important? It depends on him and we will see,” Klopp said.

“He has to play different positions as well because the centre is OK, wing I think is possible, and then we will see how we can line up.

“There will be opportunities for him, I am really sure. Rhian Brewster is a top striker, he is a top talent and I have told him already that he has an important role this year but how important depends on him. We will see.

After signing Sepp van den Berg and pursuing a move for Harvey Elliott from Fulham, Klopp admits it could be a quiet summer of transfer activity for the Reds.

“We brought them (new players) in already, only you don’t realise it. Rhian Brewster; Oxlade-Chamberlain didn’t play last year; all the young boys today. They are all new players for us, that’s all good,” Klopp noted.

“The transfer market is open until August 8. The whole of Europe had the idea to close the transfer window early and the only country that did it was then England, so we close it now three weeks before all the others.

“We will see what we do but I don’t think it will be the biggest transfer window of all time.”
