Liverpool transfer news: Dejan Lovren set to leave following £10.9m bid from Zenit St Petersburg

Dejan Lovren is edging closer to ending a six-year spell at Liverpool with Zenit St Petersburg offering €12m (£10.9m) for the centre-back.

The Croatia international is tied to the Premier League champions until the summer of 2022, but having made just 15 appearances this season, knows his future is best-served elsewhere.

Lovren came close to departing Anfield last summer in search of greater game time, but Jurgen Klopp wanted him to stay to have depth in defence.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have been the club’s first-choice pairing at the heart of the rearguard, with Joel Matip next to swap in for the latter.

Lovren will be a starter at Zenit and, at 31, having won the title, Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup, he wants to maximise his final years as a professional by getting as many minutes as possible.

He joined Liverpool in the summer of 2014 from Southampton for £20m and has made 185 appearances for the Merseysiders.
