Liverpool transfer news: Championship target is 'an absolute beast'

A Liverpool defensive target has been described by his manager as "an absolute beast".

Liverpool have been 'blown away' by Bristol City left-back Lloyd Kelly after watching him this season, according to one report.

Jurgen Klopp's first-choice left-back Andy Robertson has been one of Liverpool's best performers his season, but the Reds need back-up in the position with Alberto Moreno having failed to convince too often.

And Liverpool are weighing up a summer bid for 20-year-old Kelly, according to Football Insider .

The report says a club source says scouts have been hugely impressed by Kelly, who has been a mainstay of Bristol City's Championship campaign.

Kelly has made 25 league starts among 32 appearances this season and been a key member of the team for the Championship play-off hopefuls.

The England under-21 defender is primarily a left-back, but has the added advantage of being able to play centre-back, having played at the heart of defence for City on a few occasions.

And manager Lee Johnson reckons he will develop into a top quality central defender.

“Physically in the Championship, Lloydy is 6ft 3in, but he looks a bit slight,” Johnson told the Bristol Post . “But if you see him at his own level he looks an absolute beast.

“That athleticism, his height, and even his chest now – we have spent a lot of money making sure he gets the right nutrition and the right supplements and you can really see that coming to fruition now.

“He was a couple of years ago a real beanpole but had that raw potential to be a top athlete. Now he is proving that.”

Tottenham , Manchester United and Arsenal have also been linked with Kelly.
