Liverpool transfer latest as Ryan Kent closes in on Steven Gerrard reunion at Rangers

Liverpool winger Ryan Kent is on the verge of completing a permanent move to Rangers.

The Reds are close to agreeing a deal worth around £7million for the 22-year-old, who spent last season on loan at the Scottish Premier League side.

Liverpool will insist there is a sell-on clause for Kent included before the transfer is finalised ahead of the SPL deadline at midnight.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, the former Liverpool captain, has been keen to bring back Kent after the player's impressive spell at Ibrox but was put off by the Reds' initial £12m price tag.

Now the lowering of the asking price has allowed a deal to be neared.

The winger made 43 appearances while scoring six goals and contributing nine assists as Rangers finished second and reached the group stages of the Europa League.

Premier League round-up: Liverpool maintain 100% record

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp revealed over the summer that the club had no appetite to allow Kent out on loan again after temporary stays at Barnsley, Coventry City, Bristol City and German side Freiburg earlier in his career.

Now it appears Kent, who figured for the Reds during pre-season and was linked with Club Brugge this week, will again head north of the Border.

The youngster has made just one Liverpool appearance, playing the first 57 minutes of the FA Cup third round draw at Exeter City back in January 2016.
