Liverpool top-four prediction made with Premier League battle set for dramatic conclusion

Liverpool are facing a battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League group stages.

The Reds may have reached the knockout stages of this year’s competition, but qualifying for next year’s instalment of the tournament may prove to be difficult. Liverpool are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table and seven points adrift of the top four places.

Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Brentford in their last league fixture. They will now prepare to face Brighton this Saturday at Anfield, after having a break from top flight action last weekend with the FA Cup draw with Wolves.

Respected statistics and analysis website FiveThirtyEight has forecast the final standings in the Premier League this season, based on a complex model which takes into account a host of factors. They have crunched the numbers and predicted that Liverpool will narrowly miss out on a top four place.

It has been predicted that the Reds will finish in fifth place in the Premier League this term. The website has tipped Liverpool to amass 69 points in total, which would need the club to amass 41 points from their remaining 21 fixtures.

Manchester City have been predicted to win the league, with a final points total of 84, which is one ahead of second-placed Arsenal who have an 83-point tally. Manchester United are tipped to finish third with 71 points, while Newcastle United have the final Champions League spot.

Interestingly, the prediction has both Liverpool and Newcastle finishing on level points and with the same goal difference. What separates the two teams is that the Reds have a marginally lower percentage chance of finishing in the top four, with a 48% prediction compared to 49% for Newcastle.

Everton, Southampton and Bournemouth are the three clubs who have been predicted to be relegated in the table.
