Liverpool told to sign Matthijs de Ligt and one other 'dream' signing in transfer window

Former Liverpool star Steve Nicol thinks the Reds could do with making some summer signings and has suggested the club move for Matthijs de Ligt and James Maddison.

Jurgen Klopp has made just one signing at Liverpool this summer, bringing in young Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg for just £1.3million.

The Reds have been linked to a handful of superstars, most notably Paris Saint-Germain's World Cup winning forward Kylian Mbappe.

But Liverpool are yet to show real interest in making any one signing, and Nicol thinks it's time this changed.

"Yes they could do with signing some players," Nicol said on ESPN.

"If you have a wish list, then my wish list would be another centre-back. Somebody like De Ligt I think would be incredible.

"I also would like somebody in the middle of the park who can do a little bit more than getting the ball back.

"Somebody like a James Maddison who has the ability to pick a pass and to score a goal."

De Ligt appeared set to sign for Juventus at the start of the week but the transfer is still yet to take place giving the chasing pack hope of stealing a march.

Maddison meanwhile would set the Reds back around £60million should they look to make a bid.
