Jurgen Klopp told to sign Kalidou Koulibaly as 'final piece' by ex-Liverpool defender

Liverpool have been told to purchase the 'final piece' of Jurgen Klopp's masterplan this summer amidst reports linking them with a move for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

Andrea Dossena, who played for both clubs, says there is no reason economically that Liverpool cannot conclude a deal, despite the coronavirus uncertainty.

Liverpool are unlikely to have to hand back television money because the rest of the 2019/20 is expected to be played out.

However, should next season be played without fans inside stadia across the country, the Anfield side could lose out on around £84 million in matchday revenue.

But Dossena says that would not be a barrier to any potential deal.

The former Liverpool left-back told Radio Musica TV, via Inside Futbol : "If the league resumes, Napoli will struggle to qualify for the Champions League, so they will have to sell some important players.

"Klopp is missing one piece to complete a stratospheric squad and the Koulibaly-Van Dijk pairing could become a big barrier. Liverpool have no economic problems and therefore a deal with the English club would be within reach."

Joe Gomez, who is already on the books of Liverpool, is the other factor in determining whether or not Liverpool might hold an interest in the Senegal star.

Gomez, not 23 until later this week, is one of the most highly-regarded young central defenders in world football and the Reds would not want to stop him from developing further.

Koulibaly will also turn 29 this year, which is not the age bracket which sporting director Michael Edwards normally would move for.
