Yves Bissouma would be “the perfect fit” for Jurgen Klopp’s side this summer and should be paired with Ousmane Dembele believes a Liverpool legend.
Liverpool – who have lost out-of-contract midfielder Gini Wijnaldum to Paris Saint-Germain after he signed a bumper deal with the petrodollar-fuelled French side – have been linked with a potential move for Bissouma for several months.
Back in April, Kop Idol Jamie Carragher proclaimed that he expected the bidding to start this summer for the Mali international with current employers Brighton & Hove Albion able to “get top dollar for him.”
Now John Barnes reckons Klopp should go out and try and land the 24-year-old as he believes the player would be ideal for the Reds.
Barnes told BettingOdds.com : “I think Yves Bissouma would be the perfect fit for Liverpool.
“In terms of what Liverpool want from their midfielders, Bissouma is very strong and he’s very good on the ball.”
Barnes would also like to see Bissouma joined by Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele at Anfield.
Klopp has been a self-confessed admirer of the France winger in the past, famously declaring in a 2018 press conference: “Oooh, he’s on the market? Now I’m interested!” after Dembele’s name cropped up.
Explaining how he believed the pair would fit into Klopp’s team, Barnes added: “Bissouma is more of a defensively minded midfielder, but if you look at the way Liverpool’s front three play, then you don’t necessarily need an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal.
"If Liverpool had that then Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane wouldn’t have the opportunity to score as many goals and it would affect the way they play.
“That’s why I believe that Bissouma would suit Liverpool and that front three perfectly. He would also be a shield in front of the back four and for me, he and Ousmane Dembele would be the perfect additions for Liverpool next season.”
According to reports, Dembele's representatives met with Barcelona officials on Wednesday to discuss his future but there was no breakthrough in discussions.
