Liverpool told to sign Alexander Isak as an Erling Haaland transfer alternative this summer

Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has urged his old club to sign Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad this summer if they are unable to land Erling Haaland.

It is said the Reds, Arsenal and Chelsea are all interested in the 21-year-old Sociedad forward who has so far caught the eye at Euro 2020.

Isak scored 17 goals last term and Spanish publication AS recently claimed the Premier League has gone 'crazy' for the striker who has a £65m release clause in his contract.

Liverpool must strengthen their forward ranks over the next 12 months with Divock Origi up-for-sale and the futures of Takumi Minamino and Xherdan Shaqiri unclear.

The 23-capped international scored 17 goals in 34 La Liga games for Sociedad last season and Enrique has urged his old side to make a move should they be unable to land the Borussia Dortmund star.

"I know him very well because he play for Real Sociedad,” the Spaniard wrote on his official Instagram page.

“He is a top player, definitely I will sign him and is really young so hopefully we can go for him if we can't go for Haaland or someone like that."

Back in 2016, just as Isak was breaking through as a youngster, he was praised by Swedish icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

In a very short assessment, the former Manchester United star said: "I have seen him in action and he is fantastic."

While speaking last week, Rio Ferdinand heaped praise on Isak following his impressive display for Sweden in their goalless draw with Spain on Monday night.

Janne Andersson's side were on the back foot for the majority of the Group E clash with the Euro 2008 champions, but Isak certainly caught the eye despite having limited service in the match.

"He was a nuisance. He showed today why he's got Young Player of the Year in La Liga. He was the outlet," the former Manchester United defender said.

"We were surprised, really, when he got brought off - he must be thinking about the coming games or something like that."
