Liverpool told the next Diogo Jota could be signed from Chelsea

Liverpool-linked Christian Pulisic could be the Reds next Diogo Jota if he moves to Anfield reckons a former Premier League striker.

The USA international was first rumoured to be a target for Liverpool when he was at Jurgen Klopp’s former club Borussia Dortmund but ended up joining Chelsea instead for £58million in 2019.

Following Frank Lampard’s sacking at Stamford Bridge, Pulisic has struggled for game time under new manager Thomas Tuchel and has been the subject of more speculation regarding a potential switch to the reigning Premier League champions.

Kevin Phillips, who netted 30 Premier League goals for Sunderland in the 1999/2000 season, reckons Pulisic could emulate Jota – who struck 10 times in his first 21 outings for Liverpool, if he follows the Portuguese international to Merseyside.

He told Football Insider : “When I hear these comments about him leaving Chelsea, I’m just surprised.

“I think he’s a fantastic player but if he is to go, he’s the type of player that has the ability to sit just behind that Liverpool front three.

“He’ll only get better and better as he gets older. It’s like when Jota went to Liverpool, what a signing he’s been.

“So Pulisic could definitely be one of those players if he went to Liverpool.

“If I was a Liverpool supporter I’d like to see him playing in my side.”
