Liverpool told Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz would be a ‘great fit’ amid transfer talk

Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison believes Kai Havertz would be a “great fit” for his old club.

However, Hutchison also feels that there would be fierce competition for the youngster due his impressive form this season.

The 20-year-old has fast become one of Europe's most in-demand stars and is expected to leave Bayer Leverkusen during the upcoming transfer window.

European giants like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester United are among the clubs believed to be interested, while Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is rumoured to be an admirer.

And Hutchison can not only see why he is generating so much interest, but would love to see him at Anfield in the coming months.

"I think he's far too good for Leverkusen. I think he goes to the very biggest clubs in Europe and I think he walks into most sides,” he told ESPN FC.

"He's certainly got to fight for his place but the talent's there at 20 years of age.

"The one player I would liken him to is a taller, faster version of Mesut Ozil. I think he plays off the left-hand side, through the middle, he's predominantly left-footed, he's very silky, easy on the eye.

"So again, yes Liverpool would be a great fit, but even Barca rate him that highly they are willing to trade three players for him."

However, when asked about the speculation around his future at Bayer Leverkusen over the weekend, Havertz insisted that he wants to focus on the club that launched his career - for now.

“I do not like to say, of course, that there is a lot of speculation,” he told Sky in Germany.

“I’m concentrating on the season and we will see what happens afterwards."
