Liverpool will watch defender Nat Phillips during their pre-season preparations before deciding his next move.
Phillips is set to feature against former club Stuttgart in Austria this evening after the 23-year-old spent the majority of last season helping them win promotion back to the Bundesliga, returning briefly to make his Liverpool debut in the FA Cup win over Everton.
The centre-back found out he would face Stuttgart from one of his friends at the Mercedes-Benz Arena and admitted he could be kept as fourth-choice next season following the departure of Dejan Lovren but is equally likely to continue his progress on loan.
Phillips signed a new contract before heading to Germany last term and is 'happy and comfortable' with his situation despite having one week to impress Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff with the Community Shield final against Arsenal next Saturday.
"I'm sort of used to the unpredictability now!" he said.
"From what I understand, the plan is that they'll have a look at me throughout pre-season and we'll go from there. I think whichever direction my season ahead goes in, I'll be in a good position.
"If they decide to keep me here after the departure of Dejan [Lovren], obviously I'm one spot closer to the first team, which is good, and I can compete for a place.
"Likewise, if I go out on loan then I'm able to go out and get more games and more first-team experience and start establishing myself in my career.
"I'm feeling quite happy and comfortable going into the season ahead."
