Liverpool to sign winger who is the son of Newcastle United legend

Liverpool are set to seal a deal for young Newcastle winger Bobby Clark in the next few weeks.

The ECHO understands a transfer is likely to be completed soon, with the bulk of an agreement in place.

Bobby, 16, is the son of Magpies legend Lee Clark.

The Newcastle Chronicle claims that the youngster is "held in high regard" by his current side.

Back in 2019, the paper reported that Clark was "regarded as one of the most promising youngsters in the club's youth system."

Then aged just 14, Bobby made his breakthrough into the Newcastle u18s side after a rapid rise up the youth ranks.

His father Lee said at the time: "My son Bobby, got called up to the Newcastle U18 team which is a fantastic achievement considering he's only 14 years of age.

"He's doing well and he's being coached and taught well by the people up there.

"It's a tough environment as there are so many good young players around the country.

"He's doing well but there's going to be ups and downs which every young player experiences, just as long as he keeps working hard and listens to his coaches and tries to do the right thing then he might have an opportunity of doing something."

Lee took to social media back in May of this year, to deny that Bobby had been offered to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Daily Mail has recently suggested Spurs were one of several clubs keen on the starlet - with Chelsea, both Manchester sides and Bayern Munich all reported as holding an interest.

But regardless of other teams monitoring him, Clark now looks certain to be wearing Red next season.

His next move would be join up with Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's u18s side at the Academy once his Liverpool career begins.
