Liverpool to sell £10million teenager Rafael Camacho after latest contract rejection

Liverpool are set to sell Portuguese teenager Rafael Camacho after he rejected the club's latest contract offer.

Camacho, who made his first-team debut in January, has just 12 months remaining on his deal.

Liverpool chiefs have been keen to tie him down to an extension.

But after protracted talks between the two parties, he has informed Reds' sporting director Michael Edwards that he does not want to sign fresh terms.

Now the 19-year-old is set to be sold, with a £10million price tag having been placed on Camacho's head.

Camacho joined the Reds in 2016 after being released by Manchester City.

After impressing Jurgen Klopp on last year's pre-season tour of the US and with his versatility in training, he made his senior debut against Wolves in the FA Cup, before making his Premier League bow off the bench against Crystal Palace .

But having been used as a right-back in those matches, he returned to the Under-23s and scored a hat-trick against Leicester while playing up front.

That prompted a social media post in which he took a not-so-subtle dig at Liverpool's coaching staff.

“I do not know whose idea it is, but I will prove that they are mistaken about my football. I'm not a right defender, I'm an attacker who scores goals.”

Since then, he hasn't featured for the first team and wasn't included in the 26-man squad that travelled to Marbella this week, as Klopp's men ramp up preparations for the Champions League final.

Sporting Lisbon and Wolves have both been mentioned as parties interested in landing Camacho this summer.
