Liverpool to pay Wolves extra £12m in summer as part of Diogo Jota deal

Liverpool will reportedly be required to pay Wolves £12m this summer as part of the deal which saw them sign Diogo Jota in the summer.

The Reds swooped for the Portuguese forward in September, completing a deal which is believed to be worth a total of £45m.

However, it is thought Liverpool paid just £4m up front, as well as an extra £1m in December.

And according to The Telegraph the next instalment is due at the end of the season, with the £12m payment required before the beginning of the 2021-22 campaign.

Jota returns to Molineux for the first time on Monday night when Wolves host the Reds in a Premier League clash.

And it's fair to say the 24-year-old has had an up-and-down spell since his move to Anfield.

He started on fire, and scored a sensational six goals in his first six appearances for his new club, which included a stunning hat-trick in a 5-0 Champions League win over Atalanta.

However, he suffered a knee injury at the beginning of December which ruled him out for just under three months, and has only recently returned to action.

Jota appears to be slowly working his way back into Jurgen Klopp's starting line-up, though, and he provided an assist in the 2-0 win against RB Leipzig on Wednesday before being substituted with 20 minutes to go.

Speaking about his comeback to the fold, Klopp said: "He was a big miss, a big miss. I think the moment when he got injured he was in a really good moment, which always then makes the fact, which is already bad, that the player is injured even worse.

"What does he bring? His qualities. He can play up front in all three positions, he played all three positions for us and that is already really helpful. He can play them on a really high level, so he makes us stronger, which is really good."
