Brendan Rodgers is looking for a new backroom staff after Liverpool’s end-of-season review concluded with the departures of his long-time assistant Colin Pascoe and first-team coach Mike Marsh.
Pascoe, who has worked alongside the Liverpool manager since their Swansea City days, is the most high-ranking victim of the inquest into what went wrong at Anfield last season.
Rodgers kept his job after a meeting with Tom Werner, the club chairman, and Mike Gordon, the president of Fenway Sports Group but the hierarchy was keen to make a change at coaching level.
Marsh’s contract at Anfield expires this month and he has been told it will not be renewed.
Rodgers had been under pressure after a dismal end to the season that culminated in a 6-1 loss at Stoke City, no silverware for the third year of his reign and failure to qualify for the Champions League, despite a £117m investment in new players.
The Dutch goalkeeping coach, John Achterberg, has survived the review to hold on to his job.
Marsh, born in Kirby, was one of the few Liverpudlians on the coaching staff. He made 101 appearances for Liverpool as a player between 1989 and 1993, and returned to the club as an academy coach in 2009. He became first-team coach following Rodgers’ appointment in 2012.
