Liverpool to join Man Utd in voting the same way on ending summer transfer window early

Liverpool are set to join Manchester United in voting to have the summer transfer window extended again after it was shortened two years ago.

Back in 2017 Premier League clubs voted to close the transfer window before the start of the season to prevent players from becoming unsettled once the campaign got underway.

But the rest of Europe failed to follow suit, which has created fresh problems for Premier League clubs who can still lose players after the window in the UK closes, but cannot replace them.

Clubs are set to hold a second vote on whether they still want the transfer window to close early at a Premier League chairman's meeting on September 12, according to The Times.

But the Reds are set to follow in the footsteps of rivals Manchester United and Man City this time round and vote to have the transfer window elongated once more.

As aforementioned, the initial idea was that by closing the window early it would minimise players becoming unsettled by prolonged speculation.

But this has not had the desired effect because clubs on the continent have continued to keep track of Premier League players.

Christian Eriksen and Paul Pogba, for example, were both linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer and were the subject of speculation on European deadline day on September 2.

Eriksen has been in and out of the Spurs starting XI as a result of having his head turned, and proved to be a big miss when named on the bench in the defeat by Newcastle.
