Liverpool to face Bayern Munich in Uefa Champions League last-16 stage

Liverpool will face Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp’s side secured their place in the knockout stages with a 1-0 win over Napoli at Anfield, surviving a late scare when Arkadiusz Milik passed up the chance to level late on – a goal which would’ve sent the Italian’s through in Liverpool’s place.

Mohamed Salah’s goal was, though, the difference for last season’s finalists, who will be desperate to go one step better than their defeat to Real Madrid in Kiev in May.

Finishing runners up in the group stage means that the Reds will play their first leg of the tie on Merseyside before having to travel for the second leg.

Klopp could though take encouragement from last season’s last 16 tie when, despite winning their group and thus playing the usually decisive second leg in front of their own fans, it was a 5-0 win away at Porto which saw them cruise through.

The first legs will take place on 12-13 and 19-20 February, with the return legs on 5-6 and 12-13 March.
