The transfer window in January has been a relatively quiet one but Premier League clubs cannot help themselves and are making late moves.
Liverpool's business may be the most significant in the defence of their Premier League title, as they look to secure two centre-backs before the close of play.
Ben Davies is due to arrive from Preston and is a deal far easier to complete than the continental deal Jurgen Klopp's side are also looking to tie up.
Liverpool are also looking to conclude a deal with Schalke for Ozan Kabak, which would be an initial loan agreement with a £22m option for a permanent deal in the summer.
Schalke will not approve Kabak's move unless they seal a replacement and are eyeing a deal for Shkodran Mustafi - but time is of the essence.
The German transfer window shuts at 5pm UK time and Schalke need to conclude a signing before that deadline, although there are some potential complications.
Arsenal's discussions with Mustafi orientate around a mutual termination, which would make him a free agent, and he would then be able to sign beyond that deadline.
The closure of the German window will not impact Liverpool's move for Kabak either, as they have until 11pm this evening when the Premier League window shuts to conclude a deal.
As ever, things can change very quickly on deadline day and, for now at least, Klopp's side have a very narrow window to conclude a deal.
Should Mustafi's exit be finalised though, they may have additional hours to complete their swoop for the 20-year-old defender.
