Liverpool to bank £17m as two sales agreed for Marko Grujic and Taiwo Awoniyi

Liverpool look set to bank £17m in transfer fees with Taiwo Awoniyi and Marko Grujic both set to leave the club.

The ECHO understands that Awoniyi is set to complete a £6.5m move to German side Union Berlin with a medical for the forward scheduled to take place later today.

While Marko Grujic is currently in Portugal to finalise a permanent return to FC Porto having spent last season on loan at the Primeira Liga club.

Liverpool and Porto have agreed a fee of £10.5m for the Serbia international, and the ECHO also understands that the Reds have included a 10 per cent sell-on clause in both deals.

The Serbian, who was the first signing of Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool tenure, arrived in Portugal late on Monday evening, having been given permission to leave the Reds' pre-season training camp in Austria to finalise his Anfield exit.

Porto have been firmly leading the race for the Serbia international’s signature on a full-time basis this summer and are now on the verge of securing the 25-year-old's services.

In an interview with sportske.net earlier this month, Grujic outlined his intention to play at Porto’s Estadio do Dragao again.

He said: “I’m only sorry that I didn’t play in front of the fans. All my teammates and people in the club say it’s a fantastic atmosphere, but my career is long and I’m sure I’ll have the opportunity to play at the Estadio do Dragao again.”

While signing for the Reds at 18, Awoniyi had to wait until just before his 24th birthday to meaningfully train with his team-mates.

Work permit issues have meant the forward has been passed around seven clubs across the last six years.

The Nigeria international has spent time in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium, before returning to Germany for the last two seasons, and is set to leave Liverpool having failed to make a single first team appearance.
