Liverpool throw-in coach Thomas Gronnemark snaps back after criticism of role

Thomas Gronnemark has hit back at criticism of his role as Liverpool throw-in coach.

Jurgen Klopp drafted in specialist Gronnemark in the summer of 2018 and has kept the Dane as part of his backroom staff.

His position has often been scrutinised with former Liverpool star Steve Nicol again expressing his doubts earlier this week.

Liverpool's second goal against Wolves came after a quick-throw in before Roberto Firmino found the net.

Speaking to ESPN, Nicol said: "Because it came from a throw-in, it's well done to the throw-in coach. 'If we didn't have a throw-in coach, that would never have happened'.

"Who was it when Alexander-Arnold whipped that corner in for Origi against Barcelona? Was that a corner coach?

"What qualifications do you need to be a throw-in coach?"

But Gronnemark took to social media to hit back and suggested Nicol's criticism is unjustified.

"Two kinds of criticism. The constructive - where people are suggesting potential improvement based on knowledge, and make people or projects grow.

"The destructive - where people are criticizing from an uninformed position, or do it because of self promotion. What do you choose?"

The stats back up Klopp's decision to draft in specialist Gronnemark, who is making an impact at Anfield.

Liverpool have been shown to have a ball retention on throw-ins of 68 percent, compared to 48 percent for the rest of the Premier League.
