Liverpool thanks NHS and key workers with a very Scouse self isolation party

Liverpool thanked key workers and marked the start of another three weeks of lockdown with a display of dancing NHS staff and singing in the streets.

A singer from city centre bar Kitty's performed an emotive rendition of Liverpool anthem "You Will Never Walk Alone", while spectators sitting more than two metres apart waved their arms in unison.

Meanwhile NHS workers and carers partied outside Arrowe Park hospital to "You're a Superstar", while holding posters saying "Thank you".

They were clapped on by emergency service workers including firemen.

And Liverpool FC legend Sir Kenny Dalglish shared a film on social media of him out clapping NHS workers with his family. Sir Kenny was recently released from hospital after testing positive for Covid-19.

Sir Kenny later he saluted the efforts of NHS staff across the country in response to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

Other videos shared across the city captured residents clapping in Wallasey, fully masked carers cheering outside Beechsire care home, and musicians playing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".

The latest figures released this afternoon showed that there are now 12,093 confirmed cases of coronavirus across the North West.

New figures released this afternoon (April 16) by Public Health England show that there have been another 502 confirmed positive tests for Covid-19 since yesterday.

There are now 1,769 cases in the area managed by Lancashire County Council, with 188 in Blackburn with Darwen and 190 in Blackpool.

Limited testing for those with symptoms of coronavirus means that the true number of cases is believed to be significantly higher than those being reported by Public Health England.

The latest figures are: 227 in Halton, 339 in Knowsley, 1,010 in Liverpool, 744 in Manchester, 378 in Oldham, 278 in Rochdale, 379 in Salford, 560 in Sefton, 407 in St Helens, 549 in Stockport, 320 in Tameside, 402 in Trafford, 372 in Warrington, 354 in Wigan, and 623 in Wirral.
