Liverpool teenage striker can't stop scoring as summer signing sent off

Oakley Cannonier continued his impressive goalscoring form as 10-man Liverpool under-18s came from behind to beat Newcastle United.

Cannonier netted twice to move on to 14 league goals for the season as the young Reds won 3-1 at the Academy in Kirkby on Saturday.

Luke Chambers also scored a penalty for Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's side, who finished with 10 men after Bobby Clark was sent off against his former club.

The result has moved the Reds up to third in the U18 Premier League North standings after successive defeats to Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough.

Newcastle started the stronger and went ahead on 26 minutes when Michael Ndiweni turned home a shot after Liverpool didn't properly clear a set-piece.

The home side responded well in the second half but had to wait until the 70th minute for their equaliser when Cannonier did well to fire home from the edge of the area.

Skipper Chambers put the Reds ahead seven minutes later from the spot after Clark had been fouled, and the win was sealed with five minutes remaining when Cannonier showed great composure to finish from Melkamu Frauendorf's pass from the right flank.

In a controversial finale, Clark - signed from Newcastle in the summer - was booked and then received a second yellow card and subsequent red during injury time.

Liverpool are next in action on Tuesday when they take on AC Milan in Italy in their final UEFA Youth League group match.

LIVERPOOL U18s : Davies; Mabaya, Miles, Chambers, Scanlon; Bajcetic, McConnell (Davidson 65), Clark; Frauendorf, Cannonier, Pilling. Subs: Laffey, Mrozek, Koumas, Lucky.
