Liverpool team news confirmed for Lincoln as Rhys Williams starts and Xherdan Shaqiri returns

Rhys Williams and Kostas Tsimikas will make their debuts for Liverpool in the Carabao Cup clash at Lincoln City this evening.

Williams, a 19-year-old centre-back, will line up alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of defence in this third round clash at the LNER Stadium.

Van Dijk is the only player to be retained from the XI that won 2-0 at Chelsea in the Premier League last Sunday.

Summer signing Tsimikas, an £11.7million arrival from Olympiakos, is at left-back with Neco Williams on the other flank.

Marko Grujic makes his first Liverpool appearance since December 2017 – and only his fourth ever start for the club - alongside Academy graduate Curtis Jones in central midfield.

The Reds are likely to employ a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Harvey Elliott on the right of the three and Takumi Minamino on the left.

And Xherdan Shaqiri will start for the Reds for the first time since the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final against Monterrey last December.

Divock Origi will be the central striker.

LIVERPOOL (4-2-3-1): Adrian; N Williams, R Wiliams, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Grujic, Jones; Elliott, Shaqiri, Minamino; Origi.

Subs: Kelleher, Fabinho, Keita, Jota, Wilson, Alexander-Arnold, Van den Berg
