Liverpool team news confirmed as Xherdan Shaqiri starts vs Manchester United

Xherdan Shaqiri makes his first Premier League start of the season as Joel Matip misses out against Manchester United.

Matip trained with his team-mates at the AXA Centre on Friday but is absent from the squad in the top-of-the-table clash at Anfield.

It means Jurgen Klopp has once again named captain Jordan Henderson at centre-back alongside fellow midfielder Fabinho with Thiago Alcantara making his Anfield debut this afternoon.

Shaqiri could start as the most advanced of a midfield three as Klopp shuffles back to something resembling a 4-2-3-1 formation in an attempt to regain top spot in the Premier League.

Up front, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah take their usual places as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain drops to the bench after the defeat to Southampton last time out in the league.
