Liverpool team confirmed for Aston Villa FA Cup tie as Jurgen Klopp goes strong

Jurgen Klopp has sprung a major surprise by naming a strong starting line-up for Liverpool’s FA Cup third round tie against Aston Villa.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and skipper Jordan Henderson are all among the starters at Villa Park against a home side packed with under-23 and U18 players due to a major coronavirus outbreak in the first-team squad.

Nevertheless, there are still six changes from the Reds team that lost 1-0 at Southampton in the Premier League on Monday night.

Caoimhin Kelleher comes in between the sticks, while Neco Williams is at right-back, James Milner left-back and Rhys Williams at centre-back.

The 19-year-old again partners Fabinho, who retains his place in the first XI.

Henderson moves back into midfield while Gini Wijnaldum continues and Curtis Jones returns having been among the substitutes at Southampton.

Up front, Roberto Firmino drops to the bench with Takumi Minamino making his first appearance since scoring in the 7-0 win at Crystal Palace last month.

Thiago Alcantara is on a strong bench, with Klopp almost certain to utilise the full five substitutions allowed in the FA Cup this season.

LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Kelleher; N Williams, R Williams, Fabinho, Milner; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Jones; Mane, Minamino, Salah.

Subs: Alisson, Thiago, Firmino, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Origi, Shaqiri, Robertson, Phillips, Alexander-Arnold.
