Liverpool 'target Arsenal doctor' as club seek to replace crucial staff member

Liverpool could be set to raid fellow Premier League side Arsenal for their head of medical services, with the Gunners said to be facing a fight to keep a crucial member of their backroom team.

According to the Daily Mail , Arsenal's head of medical services, Gary O'Driscoll, is the favourite to take a position at Liverpool which will shortly become vacant.

Andrew Massey, the club's current head of medical services, will leave Anfield on March 1 as he takes up a role with FIFA , and the Reds have already begun the process of identifying a successor.

O'Driscoll has been with the Emirates Stadium side since 2009 and is highly regarded. He previously worked with the British Lions and Ireland rugby team.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta hopes to convince O'Driscoll to remain in London, though a move to the north-west, where the doctor has lived in the past, could be appealing.

Massey, whose wife is also employed by the Reds, had not officially handed in his notice at Liverpool in mid-December when the news about FIFA headhunting him broke, though it appears the process to find his replacement is underway.
