Liverpool talisman Virgil Van Dijk sends message to Chelsea ahead of Premier League clash

Virgil Van Dijk has sent a message to his teammates that they must get back to winning ways against Chelsea this weekend.

Liverpool have been firing on all cylinders in the Premier League so far this season, but fell to a 2-0 defeat against Napoli in the opening round of Champions League group stage fixtures on Tuesday night.

It was a result which brought the Reds crashing back down to earth after winning the competition last season, but speaking to the club's website, Van Dijk says that his team must be ready for the challenge of being champions this time around.

Asked if Liverpool are a target after their Champions League glory, he said: “Yes, but I think everyone wants to beat us no matter what competition.

"That’s something we have to deal with but it’s not going to be a problem at all.

“We have to enjoy that as well and I think for them to win their first game is obviously big. For us to lose our first game is obviously not what we wanted but the only thing we can do is try to win all the other games and now focus on Chelsea.”

Chelsea certainly won't be an easy test for Liverpool on Sunday.

The Blues have grown in confidence over recent weeks and looked mightily impressive in the 5-2 victory over Wolves last weekend.

While the defeat to Valencia midweek will undoubtedly be a blow, Frank Lampard's side will be hoping to put things right in front of their own fans this weekend.
