Liverpool sweat over Xherdan Shaqiri injury after limping out of England clash

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be concerned after Xherdan Shaqiri limped off injured in the Nations League clash with England.

The winger was forced off for Switzerland in the second half of their third-place play-off in Portugal on Sunday afternoon.

It appeared that the Swiss star pulled a muscle and he immediately signalled to the bench, making it clear he could not carry on playing.

Shaqiri headed straight to the medical room where he will be assessed, and Liverpool fans will be hoping it's nothing serious.

Reds supporters were quick to take to social media to give their thoughts on the incident, many hoping that Shaqiri will be fit for the beginning of the next season.

The incident was a key talking point in largely underwhelming showdown between the two European rivals.

Harry Kane, making just his second start for club or country since April, hit the crossbar inside the opening two minutes.

The captain exchanged passes with Jesse Lingard before lifting an effort onto the frame of the goal as the England fans, who had turned up in numbers, cheered their team on.

Raheem Sterling, one of only four players to retain their place in Southgate's line-up, should have also opened the scoring.

Dele Alli bundled through a couple of challenges on the edge of the Switzerland penalty area and the ball broke for Kane, who rolled in Sterling only for the forward to fire straight at Yann Sommer.

The Three Lions continued to knock on the door in the second half, while at the other end Jordan Pickford was forced to save well from Granit Xhaka.
